On the 18th day of March, 2025, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in a nationwide television broadcast announced the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State as well as a suspension Governor Siminalayi Fubara; his deputy Ngozi Odu; and all the members of the House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
